🌸 Garden Tip: Digging Up Cannas in Boise 🌸 Got cannas or other tender plants that can’t handle Boise winters? Here’s the when and how for lifting them so they’ll be ready to bloom again next year. 🗓 When:•Wait until after the first light frost blackens the foliage (usually late October).•This signals the tubers have stored enough energy for next year. 🌱 How:1.Cut the stalks back to about 4-6 inches.2.Gently dig up the clumps, being careful not to damage the tubers.3.Let them dry for a day or two in a cool, shaded spot.4.Brush off excess soil (don’t wash).5.Store in peat moss, sawdust, or newspaper in a cool, dark place around 40-50°F. 💡 Tip: Check them once a month, toss any mushy ones and lightly mist if they get too dry. ✨ Come spring, you’ll have healthy tubers ready to replant for another season of bold blooms!#gardencenter #falltips #plants #fallgarden #canna #gardentips #boisebuisness

🚨❄️ Heads up, Boise! The National Weather Service has issued the first Frost Warning of the season, Tuesday from 12am-10am. Time to give your tender plants some extra care and keep them cozy! 🌱🧣✨ What to do:•Bring inside: Houseplants, tropicals, hanging baskets, or anything in pots that can be moved.•Cover up: Use frost cloth, sheets, or lightweight blankets (not plastic directly on leaves!) to protect cannas, dahlias, tomatoes, peppers, and other tender annuals.•Water today: Moist soil holds heat better overnight, giving roots an extra layer of protection•Check early: Remove covers in the morning once temps warm back up so plants can breathe.Even a light frost can do damage this early in the season, so give your plants a little extra love 💚#farwestboise #boise #gardencenter #frostwarning #boisebusiness #greenthumb #plantcare
